If you’re looking for a chic way to keep warm this winter, look no further than our Traditional Knitted Ladies Poncho from the knitwear geniuses at Carraig Donn. So soft and cozy, so comfortable and stylish, this distinctive sweater is sure to make itself a favorite in your wardrobe!

Crafted in Ireland from 100% Merino wool, you will love how our knit poncho feels against your skin. With the super-softness of the gold standard of wool textiles, so cozy and warm without the itchiness of other wool varieties, our poncho is sure to become a go-to sweater in the chill of winter. Beautiful traditional Aran knitting patterns adorn our poncho from neckline to hem, wrapping you warmly in Irish culture and tradition. Classic Aran cable stitching, representing the ropes that fishermen use to haul in their catches, symbolize wishes for a safe voyage and fruitful days at sea. Basket stitching contrasts with the long cables, creating a beautiful texture and completing the Aran tapestry.

Modern details boost our beautiful Aran knit poncho to the next level. Rather than run in vertical lines, the knit pattern in our poncho runs at a diagonal line, creating a trendy asymmetrical effect. The stylishly high neckline frames the neck and face perfectly, while also keeping out the chill. The collar also has a two-button detail, with traditional brown football buttons accenting the top.

Available in creamy white, earthy wicker, Connemara green, and denim blue, you are sure to find exactly the hue that works best for your wardrobe. The unique poncho silhouette also drapes gracefully down your frame, and is designed to flatter all manner of shapes and sizes. Perfect for layering, you can pair it with jeans or leggings for a casual look, or with a skirt or slacks for a more dressy occasion. It also makes a thoughtful gift for someone who loves unique fashion pieces!

100% Merino Wool
Merino wool is the gold standard when it comes to textiles. Soft, absorbent, and all-natural, this type of wool is perfect for fabrics and knits that are made into clothing. If you have not had the privilege to experience merino yet, you are in for a treat. Merino’s small fibers give it the bend and twist that makes it perfect for all kinds of apparel. The softer nature of merino wool means that it does not poke and scratch at the skin, so you can wear it with confidence--no uncomfortable itchiness. Only soft, luxurious comfort.

Aran Stitching
Aran stitching is a uniquely Irish artform, born in the Aran Islands at the mouth of Galway Bay. The different knitting stitches that form the different distinct patterns in the wool are inspired by generations of Aran fishermen, their families, and the history of their lives at sea. Our Traditional Knitted Ladies Poncho features classic cable stitching, reminiscent of the ropes that fishermen use to pull in their catches and symbolic of safe voyages and good days at sea. Basket stitch patterns reference fishermen’s baskets, with hopes for fruitful catches. When you wear our poncho, you are wrapped warmly in wishes for good fortune!

    Love the feel!

I'm in the process of changing my wardrobe from synthetics to wool for health and sustainability. Since wool is slightly more expensive, I prefer to own fewer, more well made items. This garment looks gorgeous and appears to be of high quality. On bare skin, the texture is soft and does not feel scratchy.
