This antique Pewter Style Celtic Cross on Cord is a great gift for the Irish guy in your life. Based on Irish High Crosses with detailed stone carvings, this necklace is made from a highly durable base metal and aged to look like antique pewter. A wax cord gives it a lovely traditional feel.

The Celtic cross is almost as old as Christianity in Ireland itself, with the first versions appearing towards the end of St. Patrick’s live in the 5th century. They are characterized by the circle that enwraps the center of the cross and by their slightly tapered arms. The circle is thought to be an adaptation of an ancient Irish symbol added to the Christian cross to bridge the learning gap between pre-Christian beliefs and Catholicism. By the 12th century, monumental stone High Crosses had been erected throughout Ireland with rich detail and standing upwards of two meters in height.

Inside the pendant cross are detailed trinity knot designs, adding a little extra religious and Celtic significance to this piece. The Trinity knot is adapted from earlier woven Celtic knot patterns symbolizing eternal life and endless love in addition to offering a beautiful illustration of the Christian Holy Trinity.
